TIME/ENERGIES/WISDOM/SKILLS/CREATIVITY
Time is the first of five elements in my new definition of employee engagement. I distinguished the quantity of engagement and the quality of engagement in yesterday’s new definition. Lately I’ve been thinking about my definition of Employee Engagement.
Almost exactly 3 years ago–10/11/07–I offered my own definition for Employee Engagement.
I maintained then that employee engagement is
Investment of one’s body, mind, and spirit in one’s work.
Exceptional degree of emotional commitment that fuels the doing, thinking, and believing in one’s work.

This past weekend, I presented the opening keynote — Apply Your Leader Talents to Create Greater Employee Engagement — to the Healthcare Billing and Management Association’s annual conference.
Late in the 90 minutes, time ran short and I talked fast. I just quickly mentioned that the leader who wants more engagement among employees must demonstrate, even talk about her own, desired engagement.
