I’m with my Mom this week. She’s entering her 3rd year of diagnosed Alzheimer’s. She’s talking rarely. Yet watching her, I hear these lessons from her.
You can figure how each one links to employee engagement.
And to everything else.
- Don’t think I’m not listening, even if I’m not talking.
- It doesn’t makes sense that I don’t make sense. That’s hard.
- Inside I still care that you care about me.
- I’ve made a difference before. I will again.
- Your patient listening matters to both of us.
- I’m frustrated enough for twenty people.
- Think of all there is to learn from this.
- Laugh with me, even if I don’t laugh out loud. I’ve still got my humor.

What a wonderful thing that you can hear the lessons of your life experiences. It’s comforting to cross paths with other who do this! I have for as long as I can remember. Lovely that you’re with your mom at this time in both of your lives.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for sharing these wise lessons. I am over and over amazed at how much our dear parents challenged with Alzheimer Disease still have to teach us. How humbling it can be to get over ones God complex and realize that so much power still rests with this individual whose communication channels have been drastically restricted.

Our parents are our teachers, and independent of time passes and the distance you want to stay away from our hands and we can not find To halt …. every day in this beautiful world we live is a wonderful gift , Espritual part of a world that never ends and that is the essence of life and fruit of a divinity. Your mother must be so proud of you! Please, Do not hesitate to smile always …!
