5 Reasons To Be Thankful for Leadership Engagement

Let's conclude this Thanksgiving week's series of 5 Reasons To Be Thankful…by looking at the difference it makes when a business's leadership is actively engaged.

I suggest to you that true engagement by leaders provides

Culture. Attitude and behaviors underscore and support the business. Values come from (as they contribute to) the business culture. Active engagement by leaders demonstrates attitude, behavior, and values that make up the culture.

Clarity. Employees and managers view leadership as role models. The greater a leader's engagement in communication and action, the more clearly she models what others can follow.

Confidence. Clarity and culture made viable and visible by leadership instill confidence among the business force. They see behaviors expected of them; they confidently assume those behaviors themselves.

Unity. Like fish in a school or geese in a flying-v, a company succeeds more quickly and to a greater degree when its players move in the same direction. Synergy from common effort contributes directly to company's success.

Inspiration. A leader inspires (pulls) rather than motivates (pushes). The leader's engagement shows an affirmative result for which employees (and managers) can strive. That attraction is inspirational.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Tim
