What employee engagement and employee recruiting have in common, pt. 2

The Right Place, Too

Today
we'll continue looking at the power of engagement in the employee
recruiting industry. Yesterday you saw three tips about engaging the
client. Today let's look at engaging the candidate.

If you're a
recruiter you want your candidates to engage from the start, not just
on their way to the interview. Of course, it's great to bring in
candidates who score off the top of any "engagement scale."

But
they're not all like that. Here are some ways you can bolster their
engagement and increase chances for their success..and yours:

Right Place, Too.
As
a candidate must feel the prospective company is "the right place," she
must also feel your recruiting agency is the right place. And think
long-term; you want "once a candidate, always a candidate" to be a
truth in your business. It's true the client pays your fee; but the
candidate is your precious product. The service you provide the
candidate must be of such quality that the candidate wants to engage
with you. And the candidate must know that care and concern from the
get-go.

Expect What?
A primary factor in
employee engagement is the employee's awareness of what is expected.
The same is true with employee candidates. Engage your candidates in
the entire recruiting process — your role, the client's role, and the
candidate's role — by letting them know expectations. Consider a
checklist or flow chart that streamlines presenting the expectations to
the client.

Return on Investment.
People
feel (and are!) more engaged in two-way relationships. You know how
important candidate referrals are. Be sure every candidate knows that
also. Help them see how they can contribute to your business success by
offering names and information about prospective candidates they know.
Engage the candidate in this partnership.
