Build Sourcing Savvy
This
is my third posting focusing on engagement as part of the employee
recruiting industry. Having presented tips on engaging your client
organization and engaging your candidates, let me offer tips to help
you boost the engagement of your recruiting staff.
These apply whether you're a third-party recruiting agency or part of your organization's recruiting and staffing department.
Prepare for the Upswing
I hope you're not thinking that since it's a down economy there is not
much to do. There is plenty you and your team can do. How about
planning for the economy's upswing. It's sure to happen; it always has.
Consider a think tank meeting (one hour, weekly?). Start with the
open-ended question: What can we do to take advantage of the economy's
downturn? Proceed in subsequent meetings with increasingly specific
focus, action items, and practical plans.
Build Sourcing Savvy
No
matter how much you and your team know about sourcing, there's always
more to know. Focus your sourcing on the high(est) impact reqs. Look
for candidates for the jobs for which there are few viable candidates.
Source for critical jobs with multiple openings. And that's just three
"savvy" hints.
Embrace Hiring Managers
Be
eagerly available to coach hiring managers. Help them be ready to
uncover what motivates the candidate to take the job. Equip those
hiring managers with powerful interview questions such as “What is your
current role, and what do you love about it? What would you change?
What do you like to do more of, less of? What has to be different for
you to make a move? Help the hiring manager demonstrate personal
interest in the candidates and their needs/wants.
