Celebrate engagement frequently.
Two
previous postings have offered suggestions to leaders and managers
regarding the C.O.R.E. of Engagement. This posting saved the best for
last.
By "best" I mean where the best results from true
engagement will show up. Where the company will most benefit from
building and living a true culture of employee engagement.
An
employee's engagement impacts any, many, all success results. Like
customer satisfaction, customer loyalty, revenue increase, expense
decrease, employee satisfaction, quality improvement, market
recognition….
Let's get to it. Here are 4 ways, one for each of the C.O.R.E. areas, employees can effectively engage in the company's efforts.
Communication.
A
regular and frequent communication tool (newsletter, staff meeting,
conference call to customers/suppliers) can feature a brief(!) item
regarding employee engagement. Here's an opportunity for employees to
speak up about their engagement and to celebrate it…and themselves.
Opportunity.
Opportunities
that engage employees do not have to "preach engagement" because they
are engagement. Consider activities that attract attendance, stimulate
discussion, and have value. These range from brown bag lunch
discussions to off-site retreats…and dozens of opportunities between.
Resources.
Anything
that makes it easier for employees to engage is a valuable resources.
Do not limit thinking to traditional tools and training. Collect
suggestions of "what will help you…" and allow the widest variety of
responses. Not every suggestion need be accepted, but every suggestion
should be respected.
Engagement.
Engagement
deserves notice. As it something sought and desired, it is something to
recognize. Celebrate engagement: by individuals, by teams, by the
entire organization. Celebrate frequently and in a variety of ways.
