C + I = E²
Everyone has creativity. Everyone is creative. Some of us don't know it. Some of us don't apply creativity to our work.
That
restricts greater engagement among your employees. This week, I offer
information and tips to help you integrate these 3 factors:
- What Creative Self is and does.
- What Creative Intelligence is and does.
- How to apply Creative Intelligence to Employee Engagement.
And all of that starts today. Please read on…
Creative
Self is more than just your ability to "be creative." Creative Self
puts creativity to work. Creative Self is the collection of creative
cells that generate your creative ideas. Those cells stimulate your
creative expression, in whatever form and format you choose. Creative
Self produces creative design and creative development. This applies to
everything and anything: from how you write e-mail to how you conduct
staff meetings, from the motivational talk you give one employee to the
consistent expectations you set for everyone. Creative Self deals with
more than what we normally call "creative".
Creative Self
stimulates creative intelligence. Creative Intelligence combines
creative (right brain) skills and intellectual (left brain) abilities.
Creative Intelligence has a powerful impact on your business's Employee
Engagement. C + I = E².
Creative intelligence applies raw creativity to specific functions and applications.
- Apply
your team's creative intelligence when you free them to think "outside
the box" and search for resolution to a specific issue. - Call forth their creative intelligence and allow them to suggest new and different ways to accomplish a familiar result.
- Simply put: invite their creativity and give it specific application.
Employee engagement: The individual’s investment of energy, skill, ability, eagerness and desire in the work performed.
Employee engagement normally includes “involvement†and “commitmentâ€
regarding the organization’s intent and purpose. Engagement, therefore,
goes beyond involvement and commitment because "to engage" is "to act.
Call on your creative self. Discover specific ways to stimulate your employees' engagement. Initiate their creative intelligence.
Think
of opportunities that invite your employees to look at the same ol’,
same ol’ in new and different ways. Get out your notebook. Keep "can't
do that" and "that won't work" out of your mind. Brainstorm. Write down
ways that call on your employees creative intelligence.
Keep in mind that even their active responses to your invitation are engagement. That's what you are looking for.
Bonus Tip:
Praise new ideas because they are new. Qualify that not every idea is
applicable or works…but every idea has potential. This promotes your
employees to continue to engage their creative intelligence…even on
their own!
