If you’re checked out the first 4 days…er, posts…of this 5 Day Plan, you’ve seen that boosting employee
engagement is not rocket science.
It can take a little time and some energy, but it can produce results that mark success. There is constantly increasing evidence that the higher a business’s number of truly engaged employees, the better their
- revenue and earnings,
- quality production,
- safety scores,
- employee performance and productivty,
- employee retention,
- talent recruitment , and
- customer satisfaction.
And that last result is what we look at today, Day 5 of our quick and (somewhat) easy 5-Day Plan. Customer satisfaction.
Publicize your engagement to your customers, and ask their feedback.
Here are 3 actions you can employ to remind customers and clients you are hot on engagement. Certainly each action asks them for their feedback.
- E-mail. Example: At Wright Results we make it a point to really engage in all parts of our work. We commit to being fully involved in what we do and how well we do. Of course, we mean for that to impact you, our customer. Please feel free to reply to this e-mail or, better yet, come in and let us know how our engagement is working for you.
- Hardcopy form. Visibly place a half-page form near the door or cash register, in you waiting room or at the front desk. Make it attractive, with an eye-catching heading or colorful font. Offer a memorable tagline that states your commitment to engagement: Our EQ (Engagement Quotient) is on the rise! Then ask for the customer’s feedback: Engagement means putting our energy, skills, abilities, eagerness, and desire into the work we do. How are we doing? _______________. It’s not too bold to give them space to enter their name, e-mail address, and/or phone number.
- Real time talk. With proper coaching every single employee in your company can convey the above information to customers. And every single employee can comfortably ask the customer for feedback. Such conversation from the cashier, the receptionist, the clerk, the office manager, the company president demonstrates to everyone, not just the customer, that engagement is truly a big deal in your business, and for your business.

Nice idea, Tim. I get very caught up in thinking I know best and I tend to only listen to the positive feedback. It would be interesting to hear more authentic feedback about all parts of the biz, and that will help if people can reply anonymously. Thanks!
