Your own engagement: make a note of it!

Two weeks ago, in the Top 10 Tips to Keep Yourself Engaged post, I suggested keeping a notebook handy all the time.

My preference is traditional, pen-and-paper notebooking. But quite a few friends and associates have commented that’s old school.

Yeah, I guess so. And to prove I’m not stuck “back there” I’ll update my recommendation to this:

Make a Note of Your Engagement Ideas. Use a notebook, use a pda, use an iPhone or an iPad, use a netbook or a laptop. Just equip yourself with the tool that will allow you to

  • Catch the fleeting ideas of ways you can boost your engagement and/or your employees engagement.
  • Make a quick note of a good example of engagement (or non-engagement) you want to remember and share.
  • Jot down references to people, places, businesses that illustrate powerful engagement.
  • And more…

I encourage you to use any tool that gives you

  • Quick and easy opportunity to scribble a note at a moment’s notice.
  • Pleasure in recording and reviewing those notes.
  • The least difficulty transporting it. IOW, you want it with you virtually all the time.

A final suggestion. Allow your note-taking tool to free you, not tie you down. Let it become your repository for any and all ideas, brainstorms, light-bulbs, thought-flashes you think you someday might want to recall. Then don’t worry about remembering what you’ve take notes of. That’s why you’ve taken notes.

Just remember to go back occasionally (often!) and review, reflect on what you’ve recorded.

Have fun engaging!
