Opportunity rocks! Rocks employee engagement, that is.

A manager recently said to me, “My people have the opportunity to hold a job. The kind of opportunity you’re talking about seems like parties, celebrations, stuff that takes time and attention away from the real work.”

I apologized for being unclear. The O (for Opportunity) in my C.O.R.E. of Engagement provides a direct link to increased and improved employee engagement. It’s more effective to give people the information, situation, and experience that allow and motivate them to develop their own engagement.

The right opportunities do that. Those opportunities do one or more of these things:

  • Deliver observable examples of engagement at work for employees to identify and appreciate,
  • Illustrate the reasons and benefits for engagement, allowing employees to see its value,
  • Present the variety of engagement: to work, to career, to team/department, to company, to community,
  • Connect those several types of engagement, allowing the employee to see their separate and integrated worth.

These are just a few of the good results a C.O.R.E. Opportunity provides you, your team, and your business. I’m not surprised if that list causes you to think of opportunities most suitable for your people and your company.
